Drift Into SEMA 2018: Full action is the order of the day when SEMA opens its doors in Las Vegas. No other trade fair in the world offers such a spectacle. In addition to Ford and other brands, it is above all the German Continental and BMW Driving School that make the tires smoke here.
At the same time at SONAX, the well-known German manufacturer of premium car care, Ken Block's Escort MkII RS seems to be drifting from the streets of Las Vegas right onto their booth. This exceptionally well-made presentation attracts visitors in droves and cameras and mobile phones are constantly aiming at the scenery. Also, the inviting SONAX booth can once again be spotted from far away. Emotional eye-catching videos on car care run on a huge LED wall. Meanwhile, experienced experts are demonstrating everything in detail on true-to-original models in an open, customer-friendly ambience.
The extremely large fabric graphics and the product presentation seamlessly integrated into the wall design are impressive as well. The SONAX service package also convinces Drift and Ralley star Ken Block, who has his vehicles cleaned with SONAX products after heavy use. -O-Ton Ken Block- At the booth, he gives autographs for the guests standing in line, and smiles for every selfie taken with him. Ken Block is truly a tangible YouTube star.
But what motivates the industry to come to Las Vegas every autumn? It's certainly not just the countless sexy girls, but rather the 43 billion dollar automotive spare parts and accessories market. The SEMA or fully "Specialty Equipment Market Association" is in charge of the event at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Despite construction work on the site, the net exhibition area has slightly increased once again to 1.2 million square feet. More than 2,400 exhibitors are presenting their latest products and technologies. Over 3,000 new products and 1,500 special vehicles make the four-day event highly impressive.
Sexy girls or sexy cars - at some point you really can't tell anymore what's the focus on the SEMA show floor in Las Vegas, Nevada. No wonder cars and girls fight for the attention of the 162,000 visitors who travelled to Las Vegas for SEMA and AAPEX. Among them are around 70,000 trade customers from more than 140 countries and over 3,600 media representatives, who make these trade fairs in Las Vegas the world's most important events in the automotive aftermarket.
Manufacturers of special equipment as well as car manufacturers are presenting their latest innovative products to get in touch with customers from all over the world. Apart from new models, vintage cars, racing cars and SUVs, one can also spot all kinds of modified and tuned models. And one is sexier than the other. Undoubtedly so are the girls.
And it is not just American cars and brands. Also many European and especially German companies are present every year. SprayMax, a brand of Peter Kwasny Group, offers smart spray systems for personal and professional car repairs and proves that you can be well represented at SEMA with a smaller booth, too. DTE Systems, by its own account number 1 in chip tuning, makes its first appearance here in Las Vegas and is amazed by the great reception. There are many other German companies here at this year's SEMA Show, which only experts have access to - yet the halls are overcrowded.
When doors close on the last day, the public gets invited to SEMA Ignited. This year for the first time at the Platinum Lot east of South Hall. Unique cars, some of which have never been shown before, roll out of the halls in a parade where they are presented to an astonished audience. Thousands of visitors gather at this event to celebrate the cars. And they will certainly return to the desert next year, when the wheels get hot again.
