ஜல்லிக்கட்டு தமிழ்நாட்டுக் கலாச்சார மரபில் ஆழமாக பின்னிப்பிணைந்த ஒரு பிரபலமான வீரவிளையாட்டு. ஏறு தழுவுதல் என்னும் பெயரிலும் வ்ழங்கப்படும் ஜல்லிக்கட்டு குறித்து 2000 ஆண்டு பழமையான தமிழ் இலக்கியமான சிலப்பதிகாரத்தில் குறிப்பு உள்ளது. மிக முக்கியத்துவம் பெற்ற விளையாட்டாகவும் இந்த ஜல்லிக்கட்டு விளங்குகிறது.


கோயில்களுக்கு நேர்த்திகடனாக நேர்ந்து விடப்படும் குறிப்பிட்ட வகை காளைகள் தானமாக கொடுக்கப்பட்டு பராமரிக்கப் படுகின்றன.


வருடம் தோறும் பொங்கல் பண்டிகைக் கொண்டாட்டங்களின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, தமிழ் சமூக மற்றும் கலாச்சார மதிப்புகளுடன் பின்னிப்பிணைந்த ஜல்லிக்கட்டு தமிழகத்தில் பல பகுதிகளில் நடத்தப்படுவது வழக்கம்.


ஜல்லிக்கட்டு, ஊரகப்பகுதி விவசாய மக்களின் பழக்கவழக்கங்களுடன் இணைந்தது. ஜல்லிக்கட்டு நடத்துவதற்கு எதிரான உச்சநீதிமன்ற தடை தமிழர்களின் சமூக கலாச்சார உணர்வுகளுக்கு பேரிடியாக அமைந்தது.


ஜல்லிக்கட்டு வீர விளையாட்டுக்கு விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நீதிமன்றத் தடையை அகற்றும் நோக்கில் மாண்புமிகு அம்மா அவர்கள் கோரியபடி காட்சிப்படுத்தும் விலங்குகள் பட்டியலில் இருந்து காளைகளை அகற்ற மத்திய சுற்றுச்சுழல் மற்றும் வனங்கள் அமைச்சகம் உரிய சட்டப்பூர்வ நடவடிக்கையை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன்.


மாண்புமிகு அம்மா அவர்கள் வேண்டுகோள் விடுத்தபடி 1960 ஆம் ஆண்டின் விலங்குகள் சித்ரவதைத் தடுப்புச் சட்டத்தில் குறிப்பிடப் பட்டுள்ள இதர விலக்குகளிடன் சேர்த்து, புதிய ஷரத்தை அறிமுகம் செய்து ஜல்லிக்கட்டு விளையாட்டுக்கு விலக்களிக்க உரிய திருத்தங்களைச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்றும் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன்.


ஜல்லிக்கட்டு விளையாட்டுடன் இதர பாரம்பரிய விளையாட்டுக்களான மஞ்சுவிரட்டு, எருதுவிரட்டு ரேக்ளா ஆகியவையும் நடத்தப்படமுடியாமல் பாதிக்கப் பட்டுள்ளன.


கேரளாவின் செதலி (SETHALI), மஹாராஷ்டிராவின் பைல்காடா (BAILGADA) ஆகிய பாரம்பரிய விளையாட்டுகளும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

இவற்றுடன் சேர்த்து ஆண்டுதோரும் தமிழர் திருநாளான பொங்கல் பண்டிகையின்போது தமிழர்களின் வீரவிளையாட்டான ஜல்லிக்கட்டு நிகழ்வும் நடைபெற மத்திய அரசு உரிய நடவடிக்கைகளை எடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டு விடைபெறுகிறேன். நன்றி. வணக்கம்.

Jallikattu is deeply ingrained in the cultural tradition of Tamil Nadu and is immensely popular. Jallikattu found mentioned in 2000-year old ancient Tamil literature Silapathigaram and has great religious significance too.


Families donate bulls to temples in fulfillment of vows and reverently protecting the particular bull breed.


Jallikattu, conducted during the annual Pongal festivities is intertwined with the religious and social cultural ethos of Tamil society.


Jallikattu is Inextricably linked to rural, agrarian customs. The Supreme Court ban on Jallikattu had jolted the socio-religious and traditional sentiments of people.


Hon'ble Chief Minister Puratchi Thalaivi AMMA had suggested that the Ministry of Environment and Forests could de-notify bulls from the list of performing animals, within the legal ambit to enable the lifting of the ban on Jallikattu.


Hon'ble AMMA has also called for suitable amendments in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 by introducing a new clause specifically exempting Jallikattu along with other exemptions already provided in the Act.



Along with Jallikattu, other traditional sports Manjuvirattu, Eruthukattu, Rekla, etc have been affected. Kerala's Sethali, Maharashtra's Bailgada and other such traditional sports conducted all over India have been affected.


I urge the Union Government to act immediately and pave the way for conducting Jallikattu every year particularly during the Pongal festivities in Tamil Nadu, and also the other Indian traditional sports like Sethali, and Bailgada.
