Adiala Road was sealed today as the scheduled meeting day with Imran Khan turned into another flashpoint. PTI leaders Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti and Amjad Ali Shah reached the Dahgal checkpoint but were stopped by police, while most of the senior leadership failed to arrive despite being present in Islamabad for an important KPK House meeting. Questions are growing over coordination, access restrictions, and the leadership’s on-ground presence.
Meanwhile, preparations for the February 8 nationwide strike have intensified. The United Traders Alliance Peshawar announced a complete shutter-down strike, with protest camps established at Bab-e-Khyber. At the same time, authorities launched a countrywide crackdown, leading to arrests of PTI workers and leaders in Pakpattan, Okara, Chichawatni, Haveli Lakha, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, and Larkana. Multiple reports confirm raids, village lockdowns, and movement restrictions ahead of the strike.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that peaceful protest is allowed, but road blockages will not be tolerated. Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjar echoed the warning, saying forced shop closures would trigger legal action and urging protesters to limit demonstrations to service roads or press clubs.
In internal party developments, Mashal Yousafzai’s party membership has been terminated, with Bushra Bibi’s sister Maryam Wattoo confirming that Imran Khan had issued clear directives regarding disciplinary action if conduct was not corrected.
On the security front, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Apex Committee meeting, chaired by CM Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur, reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. Civil, military, and law-enforcement leadership agreed on a coordinated strategy involving police, CTD, and security forces to eliminate militant threats and restore stability across the province.
A separate report has raised alarm over missing persons, revealing that Punjab now exceeds Balochistan in reported cases, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the most affected province overall—highlighting a deepening human rights and governance challenge.
Public safety concerns also escalated with an increase in kite-string (dor phirna) injuries in Rawalpindi, even before Basant officially begins. Punjab government officials defended the decision to revive the festival under SOPs, while critics questioned preparedness after incidents involving children and conflicting policy statements. The debate has reignited memories of PTI-era opposition to Basant due to safety risks.
This episode also covers a viral CCTV incident from Jaranwala, where a child fell into an open sewer and was rescued by citizens—once again exposing urban infrastructure failures.
