In this video I'll show you how I make a hot cut chisel/hot chisel. These tools are used for several applications and come in many shapes and sizes. The ones I am making today are used for punching slot holes in hot material for the purpose of creating a slit and drift hole.

Summary of the heat treating process.

The heat treating process consist of 2 parts: hardening and tempering.

Hardening:

Step#1: heating the piece to critical temperature,

-critical temperature is a temperature range that is required for the hardening effect to be able to take place

it varies based on the material composition

Step #2: cooling the piece in a media that will provide the right critical cooling speed

critical speed is the required cooling speed that is required for the hardening effect to be able to take place

it varies and determined by material composition

the critical cooling speed determines the media being used (e.g.: water, oil, ash, air)

Tempering:

Step: re heating the piece to the right temperature to re organize the matrix of the crystal structure
