Vic Firth Artist Alberto Netto demonstrates the various instruments that make up the samba batucada and how they translate to the drumset!
Alberto Netto was born and raised in Santos, Brazil, where he started playing percussion at age 12 and the drumset at age 14. He studied drumset for a year at Conservatório Beethoven in Santos, then studied privately with Brazilian masters Duda Neves, Realcino "Nene" Lima, and Zé Eduardo Nazário. In Brazil Alberto performed with Alta Tensão, David Costa Quintet, Grupo Jornal do Brasil, Chico Gomes, Grupo Quartzo, Luis Arruda Paes Big Band and many others.
In 1989 Alberto received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. Since then, he has worked on stage or in the studio with many talented musicians, such as Aaron Scott, Filó Machado, Claudio Roditi, Helio Alves, Matt Johnson, Aaron Goldberg, The Sonny Watson Quartet, Deborah Frainciose, Jimmy Greene, Oscar Stagnaro, Alain Mallet, Anne Walsh among others.
In 1997 Alberto recorded his first solo CD, "Indian Summer," and put together his studio "Artdrums" to produce his own work as well as the music of other artists.
In 2000, Alberto joined the percussion faculty at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he teaches private lessons and master classes. Accomplished in various styles on the drumset-including Brazilian, jazz, Afro-Cuban, rock, contemporary pop, and fusion-he has presented clinics in the United States, Spain, France, and Brazil.
Alberto's instructional book and CD Brazilian Rhythms for Drum Set and Percussion, published by Berklee Press/Hal Leonard is a top seller in the US, Europe, and Japan.
