Lago di Carezza — or Karersee — is one of the most enchanting lakes in the Italian Dolomites. Known for its surreal teal and turquoise waters, this alpine lake looks like it’s been painted by nature itself. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and dense pine forests, it perfectly mirrors the Latemar mountains — creating a view so breathtaking, it hardly looks real.
What makes the water this colour?
It’s all thanks to sunlight refracting through glacial meltwater rich in fine mineral particles from the surrounding Dolomites. These scatter blue and green wavelengths of light, giving the lake its magical, ever-changing hues.
