The VENTURI project was again present at the Mobile World Congress 2013 (Feb 25-28, Barcelona, Spain). Oliver Ruepp from consortium partner metaio presented the VENTURI first year demonstrator at the ST Ericsson public Booth. This was a major visual enhancement, as compared to the earlier demonstrator at MWC2012, as it showed the correct handling of occlusions between real and virtual objects. This was made possible by geometrically reconstructing the city in an offline stage and using the resulting 3D models for occlusions.
The demo ran on the experimental prototype mobile platform from VENTURI partner ST Ericsson, showcasing sensor-aided markerless feature-based tracking, including Hillcrest Labs’ Freespace sensor fusion technology for enhanced tracking stability and robustness.
