New Super Lucky's Tale - Part 25 - Vs. Lady Meowmalade

Описание: There's danger on the dance floor in this nightclub--with every page from Gilly Island gathered, the only thing standing in Lucky's way is Lady Meowmalade herself! As Lucky is immune to her hypnotic technology, for unexplained reasons, she'll have to fight lucky in other ways. Fortunately for her, and unfortunately for Lucky, she has both booby-trapped the dance floor and wields a disco ball that shoots lasers. I take it Tess had a hand in both of these too. (Canonically, Jinx prefers Meowmalade over Tess--since Meowmalade relies entirely on Tess's devices to fight, this has led to a degree of resentment on Tess's behalf.)

The battle progresses in at minimum three cycles, and within each cycle, the battle goes as follows:
1. The dance floor becomes electrified at the end of each phrase of the background music. Starting from the second cycle onwards, enemies will appear and are not affected by the electrification. Each cycle also has smaller safe areas for Lucky than the last.
2. Lady M comes in herself, riding on her disco ball. From the second cycle onwards, the dance floor will also be electrified just as in the previous phase. On the third cycle, the disco ball will shoot twice as many lasers.
3. The disco ball overheats and stops working, allowing Lucky to directly attack it. Lady Meowmalade herself is completely immune to Lucky's attacks. During this phase, the dance floor will not become electrified.

The music also builds to a greater extent than the previous boss battles, with a different sound each phase of each cycle (meaning there are at least nine variants of this song). Due to the setting of this stage, the background music is also an upbeat EDM track, at odds with the rest of the game's "90s family film" feel, but there's nothing wrong with that. Of note is the music when Meowmalade attacks Lucky with her disco ball--it's the very same song she used in the hub world and in "Securing the Talent," though remixed twice.

(Also of note is the heavy use of autotune, which might also be uncharacteristic of this game. But it does fit in-universe, considering Tess did mention Meowmalade's not actually that great at singing, suggesting she relies on that autotune to make her singing sound acceptable.)

This actually wound up being a much harder boss battle than I expected, particularly the last part of the final phase. The safe areas for Lucky wind up becoming so small, and the lasers fill so much of Lucky's usable space, that it was near impossible to do this without getting zapped by either a laser or the floor. This is especially because the game showing you where the safe floor might be moves further and further as the battle goes on, to where it stops being useful as a guide to where Lucky ought to go.

Oh yes, and for the record, if the dance floor is in all different colors, it means it's completely safe for Lucky to stand on. Even the red ones.

Lady Meowmalade's defeat gets her to take off ahead of schedule, ahead of Greg the Mailgolem coming in and attempting to give her a letter from that "special someone." Remember that mention when Lucky first sets foot on Gilly Island? We get to find out who it is--and keep in mind who this character is, as it becomes more important later on. (Ignore the graphics oversight where Meowmalade and a female Gilly suddenly reappear on the dance floor.)

Since Lady M is the last member of the Kitty Litter to stand in Lucky's way, his next destination will be where Jinx has set up his base of operations, and Lucky will take the battle to him. That location is Hauntingham, where the Spookies come from (you may have seen a Spooky or two hanging around Gilly Island as guests), but we'll save that for some other time.
