This video contains the solution of some of the frequently asked questions of chapter HEAT with essential special tips/tricks; which may be helpful as a reference material of Science for SEE appearing students.
Some of the discussed questions-answers in this video:............as a quick reference..........................
HEAT(ताप)
Q. Define heat according to molecular theory.
Ans.: Heat is the sum or total of the kinetic energy of molecules present in a body.
Q. What is heat equation? (SEE-2074 ‘CC’)
Ans.: The equation Q = m.s.dt is called the heat equation ; where ‘Q’ is the quantity of heat lost or
gained by a body, ‘m’ is the mass of the body, ‘s’ is the specific heat capacity and ‘dt’ is the
change in temperature. OR,
The equation where the quantity of heat lost or gained by an object is equal to the product of its mass, its specific heat capacity and change in temperature (i.e., Q = m.s.dt) is called the heat equation.
Q. Define specific heat capacity a substance. (SEE-2074 ‘BC’)
Ans.: The specific heat capacity of a substance is the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of its 1 kilogram mass by 1°C.
Q. What is specific heat capacity of water?
Ans.: The specific heat capacity of water is 4200 J/kg°C.
Q. Write the name of two thermometric liquids. (SEE-2074 ‘AC’)
Ans.:The liquid used in thermometer for measuring the temperature are called thermometric
liquids. The name of two thermometric liquids are: i) mercury ii) alcohol.
Q. What is the body temperature of normal (healthy) human body?
Ans.: The body temperature of normal (healthy) person is 37°C or 98.6°F.
Q. What is are the boiling point and freezing point of alcohol at normal pressure? (SEE- 2074 ‘DC’)
Ans.: At normal pressure, the boiling point (B.P.) of alcohol is 78°C and the freezing point (F.P.) of
alcohol is -117°C.
Q. What is are the boiling point and freezing point of mercury at normal pressure?
Ans.: At normal pressure, the boiling point of mercury is 357 °C and its freezing point is -39°C.
Q. On what two factors does the quantity of heat depend? (OCE Model Question, Set 1)
Ans.: The two factors on which the quantity of heat contained in a body depends are:
i) Mass of the body ii) Average kinetic energy of the molecules (i.e.,temperature) of the body.
Q. Derive the heat equation (Q = m.s.dt):
Solution:
Let ‘Q’ be the amount of heat required to change the temperature (dt) of a body of mass ‘m’.
Then,
Q ∝m………………………(i) and,
Q ∝ dt…..............……(ii)
Combining the equations (i) and (ii) we get,
Q ∝ m×dt
or, Q = s× m × dt ; where ‘s’ is the specific heat capacity of the body.
∴ Q = m.s.dt.
i.e., Heat lost or gained by a body = mass × specific heat capacity × change in temperature.
This equation is called the heat equation.
