The strengthening ringgit is cutting the take-home pay of Malaysians earning in foreign currencies, forcing many cross-border workers to tighten spending despite favourable exchange rates.
The ringgit has risen from RM3.30 to RM3.10 against the Singapore dollar in recent months, reducing converted incomes and putting pressure on household finances, particularly as living costs and back-to-school expenses increase.
On Jan 23, the ringgit breached the key psychological level of 4.00 against the US dollar, reaching a seven-year high of 3.9992.
