We decided to take a big batch of beef tallow and turn it into something totally unexpected — homemade body butter and cooking fat.
This process was way more involved than we expected. We had to render the tallow down 4–5 times, clean it up, and add essential oils to fully get rid of the beef smell. Emily was definitely skeptical at first (and thought the whole thing was kind of gross), but once we saw how much smooth, clean body butter we ended up with, it felt completely worth it.
In the end, we made enough tallow lotion to last a long time and even have plenty to share with friends and family — plus some clean tallow to cook with too. It’s amazing how one ingredient can turn into so many useful things with a little patience and work.
