So you are wondering is 40 too old to start a new career. My first question would be why do you want a career change. Do you not like your job, not satisfying, a difficult boss, the hours, the list goes on. I would say that today 40 is not old, it's the new 30! You need to ask yourself if I start a new career, what kind of training or education do I need. Can I afford to got back to school? Do you like working for someone else. Will the career change make my eventual retirement better?
However, I would like to say that 40 is the perfect time to look at a good time to start your own business. You have amassed a lot of skills that you can put to work for yourself. Have you ever thought about owing your own business? I did, and I will never regret it. My day goes like this....I get up have coffee and check my computer to see how much I made yesterday. Have breakfast, go to the gym and come home. I work for about 4 hours on the computer and then I am free to do what I want to do. Play golf, take my Lab for a hike, or go fishing. How does career sound to you?
