Listen as an original NC&StL whistle, mounted on a NYC&StL locomotive, passes a former NYC depot in Pleasant Lake, Indiana! To celebrate No. 576's 80th birthday, the @fortwaynerailroad graciously allowed us to place 576's original long bell, 3-chime whistle on Nickel Plate no. 765 during their Tri-State Excursion on Sunday August 28, 2022. The whistle was built in the Nashville shops in the 1940s and features a Hancock valve. Who knew the voice of a Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis J-3 steam locomotive would one day echo throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan?!
