This guide details the process of replacing the V1 air spring in a RockShox Pike C1 chassis Charger 3 fork with the V2 Air upgrade air spring found in the Pike 3.1 Charger fork. As replacing the air spring requires removing the lower legs, the video also walks you through the 50-hour lower leg service.
After extensive time on the V2 air spring, I see it more as an alternative than a clear upgrade. For my weight and riding style, it just didn't perform as well as the V1 air spring paired with the Charger 3.1 damper.
The V2 definitely made the top and mid-stroke stiffer. While the V1 offered ample support, delivering exceptional control and a buttery-smooth feel on trails, the V2 made trail chatter more noticeable. It also made quick, tight turns feel sketchier, as I had to lean more into the front end for grip. With the V1, I generally felt more evenly balanced on my bike. It wasn't a dramatic change, but it's noticeable every time I ride.
If you feel you lack support in the top and mid-stroke, the V2 air spring might be a good option.
