Program Notes:
A theme and variations on a familiar tune, I like to think Rat Mechanics explores different facets of existence. We hear the same song in different places, people, and events, but we don’t always recognize it. We may not be so different from the things we deem “rat”. Life is loud, it’s quiet, it’s thought-provoking, it’s unrealistic, but in the end we all fall in line. Or perhaps not. Maybe Rat Mechanics really is just rat.

Bio as of April 2025:
Ilona Fiedorowicz is a second-year cellist and composer studying under Dr. Khari Joyner and Dr. Carolyn Borcherding respectively. She primarily writes programmatic pieces for small chamber ensembles, guided by specific images or stories. Her works have been featured in Baldwin Wallace’s New Music Series, as well as a recent premiere at the Praxis Fiber Workshop. As a cellist, she has performed with the Blue Lake Festival Orchestra in Michigan, and currently performs with the Video Game Symphony and the Cinematic Symphony Orchestra in Northeast Ohio.
