In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Sangli constituency in Maharashtra experienced a notable political shift, with Vishal (Dada) Prakashbapu Patil, an Independent candidate, emerging victorious. He secured 571,666 votes, accounting for 48.91% of the total vote share, defeating Sanjaykaka Patil of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who received 471,613 votes (40.35%). The majority margin for Patil was 100,053 votes, and the voter turnout stood at 62.27%.
The Sangli constituency comprises six assembly segments, each contributing to the overall results. In Khanapur, Anilrao Kaljerao Babar from the Shiv Sena (SHS) won with 116,974 votes. In Sangli city, Dhananjay alias Sudhir Hari Gadgil of the BJP secured 93,636 votes, while in Miraj, Dr. Suresh (Bhau) Dagadu Khade of the BJP received 96,369 votes. The Palus-Kadegaon segment saw Kadam Vishwajeet Patangrao from the Indian National Congress (INC) achieve a significant victory with 171,497 votes. In Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal, Sumanvahini R.R. (Aba) Patil from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won with 128,371 votes (63.78%). Finally, in Jath, Vikramsinh Balasaheb Sawant from INC garnered 87,184 votes (49.70%).
These results highlight a significant gain for Vishal Prakashbapu Patil as an Independent candidate against the previously dominant BJP in Sangli and showcase the diverse political landscape across the assembly segments in this region.
