A ground floor unit fire on Malabar Road in South Coogee trapped residents in the building above, prompting emergency services to evacuate multiple people. Fire and Rescue NSW conducted a dramatic ladder rescue of a woman and her baby from the burning complex. A 45-year-old man, believed to be the resident of the unit where the fire originated, was arrested and taken to Surrey Hills Police Station for questioning about his involvement in the blaze.
