Nottingham is a city that over the years has had something of a bad press, however it is also a progressive city in a lot of different ways, and with that it has also seen a lot of regeneration. But it is also a city in which the delights of it's architectural styles often get ignored, and here in the city centre of Nottingham it is possible to see various styles of architecture, from the almost brutalist concrete structures of the 1960's/1970's. to pre brutalist architecture of the sublime Gothic Style Architecture that Watson Fothergill was famed for (https://www.watsonfothergill.co.uk/) But not only that, along side the Brutalist architecture and Victorian Architecture, the Gothic facades of Fothergill, and the recent more modern glass designs, there is one building that also gets slightly ignored by many. You do not have to be religious at all to appreciate the beauty of religious architecture.
And it was on the afternoon of the 18th of September 2024, that under a glorious sunny sky, on a glorious sunny afternoon, that I managed to capture another delight of Nottingham's architecture - St Barnabas Cathedral. But hold on what makes this Cathedral interesting? Well it is a Grade 2 listed building that had the first foundations laid in 1841, construction took place between 1841 - 1844, and who was the architect of St Barnabas Cathedral, but "Augustus Pugin." The same architect who was known for his work and design within Palace of Westminster in Westminster, London, and its renowned clock tower, the Elizabeth Tower (formerly St. Stephen's Tower), which houses the bell known as Big Ben.
However, inside of St Barnabas Cathedral, transformation and restoration is taking place, and that transformation and restoration, is uncovering the beautiful Pugin interior of this Cathedral, and it was on Friday the 6th of September that I had a small guided tour around St Barnabas Cathedral learning more about the Pugin works that can be found within, a must for anyone who loves Architecture.
And in this video, you can see the various architecture, vistas and views of Nottingham, along with the impressive architectural delight of the Pugin designed St Barnabas Cathedral.

(A big thank you, also goes out to Canon Malachi Brett, of St Barnabas, for allowing me to fly over St Barnabas, and capture the beauty of a truly glorious building.)
