Since the scale I'm singing has 6 whole steps and 2 half steps, that makes a total of 8 steps. This also makes for 8 scale degrees. Let's call whole steps "large steps" (labeling them with L), and, let's call half steps "small steps" (labeling them with s). The mode I'm using is thus as follows, where I show scale degrees with steps in between:
L L L s L L L s
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1
I find it helpful to think of this scale like the tritone scale or octatonic scale in 12-EDO. Each half of the scale comes from one of the distinct 7-EDO modes of 14-EDO. The MODMOS (LLsLLLLs) is also great to sing, similarly to how the ascending melodic minor scale in 12-EDO (LsLLLLs) compares to the major scale (LLsLLLs).
