We practice what's called Sandhills (or leave behind) calving, which means we move the heavy (pregnant) cows to fresh pasture leaving behind the pairs (cows with calves).
Calves are born with zero immune system. Sandhills calving and moving the pregnant cows out and onto fresh pasture helps us keep newborn calves healthy by reducing their exposure to the older calves.
Watch as I try to explain labor to Tripp as we move a few heavy cows out of the pairs.
