Hey Guys! If you've seen my Mazatlan video, then you know I have decided to move to Mexico City. I mentioned I would put together another video on why I chose Mexico City over many other cities in Mexico and outside of it (I didn't mention this but I have been also considering Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon).

In this video, I walk you though why I've chosen Mexico City as my next home and why it is truly a global city that few other cities (even well-known global cities like NYC, London, Paris, Barcelona & L.A.) can compete with. Check it out!
If you are looking to visit Mexico City and you've never been, this video will be helpful to you as well.
It will show you around the city, what you can expect and the various activities you should consider adding to your itinerary.

I've visited all of the cities I mention above along with many in Mexico (such as Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Monterrey, Mazatlan, Oaxaca, etc) in past travels and have been evaluating them all to see where I wanted to land when I leave the U.S. this summer. I will say, I'm a bit biased because I did have the chance to live in Mexico City in 2018 and have traveled there again and again over the years. I've been falling in love with it slowly and ever more deeply over the years. I've now chosen it as my next home.
My biggest concern in Mexico City is the rental market. They have an odd city law that requires all landlords to obtain a guarantor (called "aval" or "fiador") which gets complicated for foreigners because it needs to be a person who owns property within Mexico City limits (although, at times they will accept people who own property in other places in Mexico); ultimately, that person becomes your "co-signer." Well, I don't know anyone that well enough in Mexico to ask them to be my co-signer. And therein lies the problem. This quirk forces us foreigners to use Airbnbs (which are not sustainable over the longer term because they're expensive) or we end up paying a significant premium to rent overpriced properties, usually rented out by other foreigners in the city (e.g. Canadian-owned property management companies, for example). That's a big disadvantage.
Having said that, I really feel this is the city that has everything I want and offers such an amazing quality of life that I am determined to "break the code." Lol. I will be posting about my experience once I move. I do have a couple of friends (Mexican nationals) who live in the city and I will be asking them to help me navigate this issue.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my channel!
