I've been having a lot of fun getting some great, realistic drum recordings out of this setup in my home studio, so thought I'd put this together for any other DIY musicians looking for a solution to a similar thing.
Original music featured is taken from my project @luotheband 's new release "Toad EP" out now: • Album - Toad EP

I've programmed beats with Addictive Drums for over 10 years, but physically playing it with an E-kit is a relatively new thing for me & my alias/band Luo; we've always recorded real drums in a studio for our albums and releases, with AD being more of a demoing or writing tool.
I was curious how well an E-Kit combined with Addictive Drums 2 might work to replace real acoustic drums for some singles or releases, as it'd make producing and releasing music for my band much easier and more cost-effective compared to hiring a studio, or using lots of mics and everything else involved with recording acoustic drums.
The main questions or doubts I had were basically 'would AD2 sound realistic enough so we can avoid having to record real drums and still sound good?' and also 'would this budget setup actually feel nice or be acceptable to play for a seasoned drummer?' and these kinds of questions. I think lots of other DIY artists probably have similar questions or doubts about this.
I'm lucky to know a few incredible drummers and this video is pretty special, as it features two of them; my good pals Sam Hughes (previously of Luo & @Yakul) and James Glazier (now in Luo)!
Using behind-the-scenes footage of us recording some new Luo tracks with these guys' tekkers chops pushing this budget recording system to its absolute limits, I hope this is a good practical showcase exploring how this setup performs, whether or not it can cut the mustard for your own home studio needs, and some of its cool uses as a creative & practice tool, as well as a stand-in for real drums in a production & mixing context for a single, EP or album project.
