Two beautiful methods of grafting mango trees are:

1. Discrete pair pens

This method is one of the most common and successful pen methods. This is often done on mango trees. To make the patch pen, you will need the following materials:

a sharp knife
Grafting wax or plastic tape
Rubber band
Kalam wood (6-8 inch long wood from mango tree of desired variety)
Rootstock (the plant you will be grafting onto)

Method of penning discrete pairs:

Cut a rectangular strip of bark about 2 inches long and 1 inch wide from the trunk of the rootstock.
Cut a rectangular piece of bark of the same size from the pen wood.
Match the cambium layer of the rootstock cut with the cambium layer of the graft wood cut.
Stick the cut pieces together with grafting wax or plastic tape.
Hold the graft in place with a rubber band.

2. Side pen

This method is similar to the patch pen, but the pen uses a thin piece of wood. To make veneer grafts, you will need the following materials:

a sharp knife
Grafting wax or plastic tape
Rubber band
Kalam wood (6-8 inch long wood from mango tree of desired variety)
Rootstock (the plant you will be grafting onto)

Method of Side Grafting:

Make a vertical cut about 1 inch long in the trunk of the rootstock.
Cut a thin sheet about 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide from the pen wood.
Match the cambium layer of the grafted cuttings with the cambium layer of the rootstock cuttings.
Stick the cut pieces together with grafting wax or plastic tape.
Hold the graft in place with a rubber band.

In both procedures, the graft will take several months to achieve success. If the graft is successful, the cutting wood will begin to grow along the rootstock and produce new stems and leaves.
