Today we look at the Isolated Pawn Structure, often an Isolated Queens Pawn (IQP), which occurs when one side has a pawn that has no other pawns on the neighboring files. This interesting structure leads to a position where one side has the dynamic and spatial advantages of the pawn, while the other side can look to add pressure to this clear weakness. It is a very common and classical structure which defines a whole variety of d4, c4, and e4 based openings! We will learn all about it in this video.
