Having withdrawn from official involvement in motorsport following a tragic crash at the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans, General Motors formed the Southern Engineering Development Company (SEDCO) as an off-the-books way to continue supporting NASCAR and drag racing in the late 1950s. SEDCO published the “1957 Chevrolet Stock Car Competition Guide,” which provided instructions detailing how customers could turn a stock 1957 Chevrolet One-Fifty Utility Sedan into a race-ready “Black Widow.” This example, known as “Ram Jester,” was one of just six cars produced by SEDCO itself.
You can visit the 1957 Chevrolet One-Fifty Utility Sedan “Black Widow” by SEDCO on the second floor of our museum, in the "Driven to Win" exhibit. "Driven to Win" is supported by Radford Racing School: https://radfordracingschool.com
