The accounting equation is considered to be the foundation of the double-entry accounting system. On a company's balance sheet, it shows that a company's total assets are equal to the sum of the company's liabilities and shareholders' equity.
দুতরফা দাখিলা পদ্ধতিতে প্রতিটি লেনদেন বিশেষণ করলে ক্সদ্বতসত্তা বা দুটি পক্ষ পাওয়া যায়। যার একটি ডেবিট ও অন্যটি ক্রেডিট। লেনদেনের এ ক্সদ্বত সত্তার উপর ভিত্তি করে আধুনিক হিসাববিজ্ঞানীগণ একটি গাণিতিক সূত্র প্রবর্তন করেন যা হিসাবসমীকরণ নামে পরিচিত। অন্যভাবে বলা যায়, যে গাণিতিক সূত্রের সাহায্যে ব্যবসায়ের মোট সম্পত্তি ও মোট দায়ের সম্পর্ক প্রকাশ করা হয় তাকে হিসাব সমীকরণ বলে। এ সমীকরণের উপর ভিত্তি করেই হিসাববিজ্ঞানের দুতরফা দাখিলা পদ্ধতির যাবতীয় কার্যক্রম সম্পাদিত হয়।
