John begins his letter the same way he began his Gospel — with Jesus.
Not an idea.
Not a philosophy.
Not a concept.
A person.
“What we have heard… what we have seen with our eyes… what we have looked at and touched with our hands.”
This faith is grounded in encounter.
In relationship.
In lived experience.
Christianity doesn’t start with belief systems — it starts with meeting Christ.
And then John gives us a sentence that changes everything:
“God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.”
Not partial light.
Not mixed light.
Not shadowed light.
Pure light.
Which means walking with God is not just about proximity — it’s about alignment.
John draws a clear contrast:
You can’t claim fellowship with God while choosing to walk in darkness.
But you also don’t walk in the light by pretending you’re perfect.
Walking in the light means living honestly before God.
Openly.
Unhidden.
Unmasked.
Light doesn’t expose us to shame us —
it reveals us so we can be healed.
And the promise is beautiful:
When we walk in the light, we experience real fellowship — with God and with one another — and the blood of Jesus continually cleanses us.
Not once.
Not occasionally.
Continually.
Light leads to life.
Light leads to freedom.
Light leads to community.
This is not about performance.
It’s about direction.
Not perfection — but posture.
Not flawlessness — but faithfulness.

MEMORY VERSE (NLT)
“But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.”
1 John 1:7 (NLT)
So here’s the question to carry with you this week:
What would “walking in the light” look like in the ordinary, hidden spaces of your daily life — not in public, but in private?
