Описание: Saint Hilary of Poitiers, Doctor of the Church, was one of the Church’s greatest defenders of the Nicene Creed during the height of the Arian crisis in the 4th century. As Bishop of Poitiers, he courageously proclaimed the truth that Jesus Christ is consubstantial with the Father, even in the face of exile, persecution, and opposition from emperors and fellow bishops.

Born a pagan and educated in rhetoric and philosophy, Saint Hilary was a relentless seeker of truth. Through the study of creation—following the wisdom of Romans 1:20—he came to know the one true God, rejected polytheism, and dedicated his life to the Catholic faith he had embraced.

The Church, in her wisdom, places Saint Hilary’s feast day immediately after the Octave of the Epiphany, reminding us that the mystery we celebrate at Christmas is the very truth Saint Hilary defended:
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God… consubstantial with the Father.

Saint Hilary’s witness speaks powerfully to our own age—an age in which living and professing the truth often leads to ridicule, cancellation, or persecution. His life teaches us that revealed truth is more certain than any human theory, because it comes from God, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

May Saint Hilary of Poitiers inspire us to live the truths of our Catholic faith not only within the walls of the Church, but boldly in the world—no matter the cost.
