Naglok is located in Bhilgaon, Nagpur, Maharashtra India where Dr. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism with 500,000 followers in October, 1956, thus vigorously bringing Buddhism back to the land of his birth. Nagaloka is today a major center of revival of Buddhism in India. Thousands of people visit the beautiful Walking Buddha in the center of the complex every year. The heart of Nagaloka is the Nagarjuna Institute, which provides training and conference facilities for Buddhists and social workers in India and around the world.

Nagaloka was created through the combined efforts of Indian Buddhists and their supporters in Taiwan, China, Korea, Europe and the United States. As such it is an international institution based on the values of compassion and social engagement and is an example of how the traditional Buddhist value of dana/ generosity is being practiced meaningfully in the modern world.
Dr. Ambedkar has inspired millions of young people to understand how Buddhism can help them transform their individual and social lives. Unfortunately there is little effective teaching available in India. The Nagarjuna Institute was started to respond to this need. It conducts two residential courses, an eight month introductory Dhammasekhiya course, and a three year BA degree in Buddhism and Dr. Ambedkar Studies as part of Nagpur University. Both teach basic Dhamma, meditation, puja (chanting), and social action.

Dr. Ambedkar chose Nagpur as the venue of his dhamma deeksha as Nagpur had been the land the Nag community, who were Buddhists. “Also, Nagpur and Vidarbha had a larger number of Mahar and other dalit communities, who were active in his movement,”
Deekshabhoomi stupa is completely hollow inside. It is the largest hollow stupa among all Buddhist stupas in the world. The inner circular hall is spread across 4000 square feet with granite, marble and Dholpur sandstone used in its construction.

Deekshabhoomi is in Nagpur, Maharashtra, a location regarded as a sacred place, prernabhoomi (inspiring land) of social revolution in India.
