On the night of March 9 to 10, 1945, 279 B-29 Superfortresses flew low over Tokyo, dropping nearly 1,700 tons of M69 incendiary bombs. In six hours, sixteen square miles of the capital were erased. More than 100,000 civilians burned to death, exceeding the toll of Hiroshima.
This is the story of how precision failed, how fire became strategy, and how one night turned a wooden city into an ocean of flame. Planned by General Curtis LeMay, the Tokyo raid marked a new logic of war built on low altitude, maximum saturation, and total destruction.
Through archival photographs, survivor accounts, and military records, this documentary retraces both the science and the horror behind the deadliest air raid in human history.
