The building itself is Grade II listed, reflecting its architectural significance and the care taken in its preservation. The building's history dates back to 1920 when it was constructed on the site of Llandudno's first market hall. Designed by local architect Arthur Hewitt, who also contributed to other prominent Llandudno buildings like Clare's Department Store, it opened its doors as the Palladium Theatre. It was conceived as a multifaceted entertainment hub, intended to host "kinematograph hall, theatre, music hall, opera house, circus and entertainment proprietors etc." The theatre was grand, boasting 1,500 seats across stalls and two balconies, and even had its own orchestra, staging a variety of performances including drama, variety shows, musical comedy, and ballet. Notably, the renowned singer and actress Gracie Fields once graced its stage.

Over the decades, the Palladium evolved with changing entertainment trends. After World War II, it primarily functioned as a cinema. In 1972, the interior was subdivided, with the stalls area converted into a bingo hall and a smaller 600-seat cinema occupying the upper circle. The venue closed in 1999 and was subsequently acquired by JD Wetherspoon. Following extensive restoration work that aimed to revert the building to much of its original single-space layout and preserve its historic elements, The Palladium reopened as a Wetherspoons pub in August 2001.
