The non-profit ADAC Luftrettung is continuing to modernize its fleet. Starting now, the newest and most advanced rescue helicopter, the H145 (BK117D.3) with a five-blade rotor and winch, is in operation at the air rescue station at the Munich Clinic Harlaching. This investment by the non-profit organization aims to enhance the quality of care and flight safety for its patients and crews.

The new #adac rescue helicopter offers more power and can fly with up to 100 kilograms more payload. Since more fuel can be carried, the maximum flight time increases by about half an hour. This is a significant improvement and range extension, which is especially beneficial for urgent transfers of critically ill patients between hospitals, highlighting the features of Airbus Helicopters' most modern rescue helicopter. With the fifth rotor blade, the H145 is even more stable in the air, which means less vibration in the interior and thus a gentler transport for the patient.

Equipped with two engines of approximately 900 horsepower each, the helicopter is highly powered, enabling the flying Yellow Angels to reach accident sites and hospitals at a maximum speed of up to 260 kilometers per hour as quickly as possible. The maximum take-off weight is 3.8 tons. The weight of the new #h145 is less than that of the previous model, providing more payload capacity that can be used for additional specialized equipment or medical personnel for the care of intensive care patients.

2023, the Munich crew of Christoph 1 was alerted to 1,621 missions around the state capital, including 97 with rescue winches. The new H145 is particularly suited for such demanding special missions in the mountains or hard-to-reach locations due to its high performance. Munich is the fourth ADAC Luftrettung station to deploy the five-blade technology.

Depending on the need, ADAC Luftrettung offers now different helicopter types. For primary missions (emergency missions), the company predominantly uses the H135 helicopter, the most frequently used rescue helicopter in German air rescue. Compared to the H145, it is smaller and more maneuverable with correspondingly less downwash and thus has advantages in urban, densely built-up areas. Moreover, it is cheaper to purchase and operate.
