Shauna Howe's Kidnapping Made an Entire Town Cancel Halloween For 15 Years

Описание: In October 1992, Oil City, Pennsylvania was preparing for Halloween like it always had. Decorations were up, kids were attending parties, and parents still believed their town was safe enough for children to walk home alone. Eleven year old Girl Scout Shauna Howe left a church Halloween party just after 8 p.m., only a few blocks from her house.

She never made it home. A witness watched as a man grabbed Shauna off the street, covered her mouth, and rushed her away as a red car sped off nearby. Despite a fast police response, Shauna was gone. Two days later, her costume was found miles away. Her body was discovered beneath an abandoned railroad trestle, showing signs of extreme violence.

For years, the case stalled as technology lagged behind the evidence. Oil City cancelled Halloween, replacing it with vigils and silence. Nearly a decade later, inmate testimony and DNA finally revealed the truth. Shauna had been kidnapped and murdered by James and Timothy O’Brien, with the help of Eldred “Ted” Walker. All three were convicted. The town eventually brought Halloween back, but the fear and loss never fully left.
