Note that this feature is turned off by default, so if you haven’t enabled location sharing on Instagram, this feature will already be disabled.

If you’ve previously enabled location sharing on Instagram, here’s how to turn this feature off. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile. Tap the menu icon in the top right corner. Scroll down and select Story, Live & Location. Select Location Sharing. Then select No One. Tap Done to save. Once you’ve changed this setting, your live location will not be shared.

If you want to view the map, go to your messages, and select Map in the Notes section at the top. If anyone you’re following has shared their location with you, you’ll be able to see them on the map. You can also tap the Settings Icon in the top right corner here to access your location sharing settings.

Note that if you share a post and tag a location, your post will appear on the map at the location you’ve tagged, but your live location will not be shared. If you don’t want anything to appear on the map, do not tag locations in your posts. (This includes stories, feed posts, notes, etc.)

As an extra measure, you can also turn off location access in your device’s settings. This is usually under the privacy category of your Settings app.
