'Believe It or Not' was a thing long before Jack Palance came on the scene. The cartoon strip, highlighting items that were strange, bizarre, or unexpected, started in 1918 and was syndicated by Hearst in 1929. The radio show began in 1930, a series of Vitaphone theatrical shorts followed. It came to tv in 1949, hosted by Ripley himself until his death. Jack Palance fronted the 1982 revival; he had several co-hosts over four seasons including daughter Holly and Marie Osmond. Later Dean Cain and Bruce Campbell would host separate revivals. Henry Mancini gave Palance a top-notch theme; in later seasons a shortened version removed the entire first section.
