Pink Floyd- Time (Animation Competition Entry)

Описание: This video was created by me for Pink Floyd’s Animation Competition celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Dark Side of the Moon.

This video was a pleasure to work on and I took pride in bringing “Time” to life in a new way, as Pink Floyd has become a major creative influence to me.

The animation in this video took heavy inspiration from the animations of Monty Python and the works of Terry Gilliam. It was created using stop-motion animation. I have always been an avid fan of animation. It has inspired me to tell stories that could only be possible through this medium. I have created many stop-motion videos over the years, and when I heard of Pink Floyd’s competition, I knew instantly that I had to go with stop-motion. I believed this style of animation would be perfect for this competition.

The main character, the spaceman, is a stop-motion puppet created from scratch. He consists of a plastic, articulated skeleton and a space suit made from different colored fabrics. His head features expressive eyes in the video, a stylistic choice I achieved by swapping out multiple versions of his head, each with a different expression. His headpiece is an upside-down plastic medicine cup that has been spraypainted black and with painted eyes.

The other characters are animated very similar to the original Monty Python animations, being flat, two-dimensional characters animated on a flat plane. I animated the snake, the three-legged creature, and the “King” in this way. These characters were all animated in two dimensions on a green background and then I removed the background with chroma key to place them into the environment.

All the backgrounds were painted in Blender. I once again strived to emulate the Monty Python style by making each background a flat picture that the characters move on top of. There are also a few 3D effects, such as the clock and the vortex effect, that were created in Blender. The spaceship was a model that I created as a child for a school project that I knew would be perfect for this video. Editing was done with Adobe Premier Pro.

With this animation, I hope to provide a thought-provoking story and to give a new and interesting take on Pink Floyd’s music.
