The sun was dipping low over Mexico when the call came in — Ramiro wanted a race into Guanajuato. No rules. No traffic limits. Just pure speed, skill, and whoever reached the city tunnels first. And I knew exactly which beast to bring out of the garage.
My Toyota Supra MK5.
Not stock. Not mild. Not “slightly tuned.”
This one was a fully built, heavily modified highway predator.
What used to be a quick street machine had been transformed into something that felt illegal to drive. Bigger turbo, refined ECU tune, racing suspension, perfect gearing, and aero adjustments that glued it to the asphalt even at insane speeds. The Supra didn’t just go fast anymore — it hunted.
Ramiro pulled up in his car, revving loud like he already won. I just smiled. He hadn’t seen what this Supra had become.
“First one into Guanajuato wins!” he shouted.
I didn’t answer.
I just launched.
The Launch
The moment I hit the throttle, the rear tires screamed and the Supra shot forward like it had been fired from a cannon. First gear disappeared instantly. Second gear pulled hard. Third gear felt like a rocket booster.
By the time Ramiro even reacted, I was already a blur ahead of him.
The speedometer climbed fast — 140… 180… 220 km/h — and the engine note turned into a deep, aggressive roar that echoed across the open highway.
This wasn’t just speed.
This was domination.
Highway Stretch – Where the Supra Showed Its True Power
The long highway before Guanajuato is where cars prove what they’re made of. And this is where the modified Supra became a monster.
I pushed it.
300 km/h felt stable.
340 km/h still felt controlled.
Then I kept going.
The tuning did its magic — the car stayed planted, no vibrations, no fear, just pure confidence. The steering felt sharp, responsive, like the car was reading my mind.
I glanced in the mirror.
Ramiro? Gone. A tiny dot fighting to keep up.
And then the Supra hit its peak — over 400 km/h. The world around me started to blur. Trees, signboards, traffic — everything became streaks of color. Only the road ahead mattered.
This is where you realize — this car is no longer a street car.
This is a highway missile.
Entering the Curves Before Guanajuato
Speed is one thing. Control is another.
As the highway started curving toward the hills, I braked hard. The racing brakes bit instantly. No sliding. No drama. Just perfect deceleration.
Downshift.
Turn in.
The modified suspension and aero setup showed their worth. The Supra hugged the road like it was on rails. I carved through corners with precision that felt unreal for a car that was just doing 400 km/h seconds ago.
Ramiro tried to catch up in the turns, but this is where the build made the difference. The Supra wasn’t just built for top speed — it was balanced.
Fast on straights. Deadly in corners.
The Descent Into Guanajuato
Then came the downhill stretch into the city. This part is dangerous — narrow roads, sudden turns, traffic, and elevation changes.
Perfect place for mistakes.
But not today.
I kept the momentum flowing. Quick steering inputs, smooth throttle control, late braking into corners. The car felt alive, responsive, almost aggressive — like it wanted this race as much as I did.
The city lights of Guanajuato appeared ahead.
Ramiro’s headlights were still far behind.
The Guanajuato Tunnels – Final Test
The real challenge is never the highway.
It’s the tunnels.
Tight, dark, echoing chambers where one wrong move means a crash.
I entered at high speed. The engine roar echoed through the tunnel walls like thunder. The headlights reflected off the stone, creating a cinematic blur as I weaved through traffic and sharp bends.
Here, control mattered more than speed.
And the Supra delivered.
The steering felt razor sharp. The brakes responded instantly. The acceleration out of corners was brutal and smooth at the same time.
I could hear Ramiro entering the tunnel far behind, but it didn’t matter anymore.
This race was decided the moment I hit that 400 km/h on the highway.
Crossing the Finish
I burst out of the tunnel into the heart of Guanajuato and crossed the imaginary finish point.
Silence.
Then, seconds later, Ramiro arrived.
He didn’t even say anything. He just looked at the Supra and shook his head.
“What did you do to this thing?”
I just revved the engine once.
That sound said everything.
The Feeling
Racing Ramiro into Guanajuato wasn’t just another event.
It felt like a scene from a movie.
The golden sunset.
The screaming engine.
The empty highway.
The dark tunnels.
The lights of the city ahead.
And at the center of it all — a modified Supra MK5 that refused to lose.
Final Thoughts
Some cars are fast.
Some cars handle well.
Some cars look good.
This Supra does all three — and then pushes beyond.
It’s not just a car anymore.
