PORTA BOTE BOW AND STERN SPLASH GUARD

After taking the Porta Bote out to Sea I notice 1+ foot sneaker waves from passing boats can enter the boat from the bow or the stern.

The only way to keep water out is to BLOCK the point of entry.

In this video I show an easy way to keep water from entering from the stern. Cutting two pieces and sandwich it between the folding transoms.

I bought an 8'x4' Plas-Tex Wall Panel and cut to fit the opening where the water entered. Then I cut a nice half dome for the bow. I used a Heavy Duty Velcro and some PVC to help keep the bow cover down and secure.

My Review after 20 trips using the 14' Porta Bote.

After taking my Porta Bote out more than 20 times here is how I feel about it and what I advise.............
I really like the 14'r but note that bote is heavy. Once in the water man it's all good to go! Yes, I did choose the 6hp for the 14'r, weight and the hp power for me was perfect since it would get me to the spot a lot faster than my kayak or AI would've. At one moment I was regretting not buying the 9.8hp because I could've used it at 3/4 of its power, saving full throttle for glassy condition. The weight on the 9.8hp you'll need to keep in mind ((((weight and balance)))) ....
Now about the (((((FLEX)))) ...........
I HATE THE FLEX , but that's me... Why? I don't like to worry wondering if something might give way.
I took the bote out over 20 times and I got use to the
(((FLEX))) , it's build strong . That is one of many things you have to trust in Porta Bote vessel. Just remember this bote folds and you should never compare it to a standard boat. Take it slow and always inspect your bote
((( BEFORE AND AFTER ))) every trip.

Advice using a 14'r Porta Bote powered with a Suzuki 6hp,
#1 adjust the tilt on the motor so the shaft does not touch the transom or hull during the run.
#2 tighten the rotating feature so the motor does not have any play / you don't want to lose control because this bote has flex everywhere you look.
#3 Go at a safe speed threw swells and choppy condition.
#4 Buy a deep cycle battery and electric trolling motor for back up in case your main motor fails on the water.
#5 If you're out in open water / ocean bring a GPS , VHF Radio , Life Jacket / PFD , Whistle , and a couple of swimming pool blow up raft just in case you have to abandon ship. These are all the Items and rule I go by with all my vessels.
