In the same arena, there are two species of microbes: 9-quines (7 microbes) and 20-quines (2 microbes). They compete on the resources. Now, that's interesting: the resources are the rewrites, which are randomly allocated. There are two kinds of rewrites, either increasing or decreasing the number of nodes. This system has a limited memory, intended for mimicking an approximately closed system. At each computation step is computed the difference between nodes-increasing rewrites and nodes-decreasing rewrites. This difference then changes slightly the random coins which decide which rewrites are done in the next computation steps. If there were more node-increasing rewrites in the last step, then in the next they will have lower probability to appear. Similarly from the node-decreasing rewrites.
