COMPLETING A RESUME CREATED FROM A TEMPLATE
PROJECT STEPS
1. You work for Ellis Personnel, an employment services firm in Chicago, IL, and are preparing a resume for Josef Stein, a new client who is looking for a management position in the hospitality industry. You created the resume using a template and need to customize elements of the document and its formatting.
Change the top and bottom margins to 0.5" to fit the entire resume on one page.
2. Create custom theme colors and fonts as follows to apply to this resume and other resumes you might create:
a. Create a customized set of theme colors named Ellis that uses Green, Accent 6 (10th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette) as the Hyperlink color.
b. Create a customized set of theme fonts named Resume that uses Arial as the heading font and Calibri as the body font.
3. Apply the Word 2010 style set to use a style set without text in all capitals.
4. On page 1, delete the Author content control to remove the unnecessary element.
5. Create a new paragraph style as follows to separate date paragraphs from other text:
a. Create a paragraph style named Duration based on the paragraph containing the text "2023 to present".
b. Change the Spacing Before paragraph setting of the Duration style to 6 point.
c. Change the Spacing After paragraph setting of the Duration style to 2 point.
d. Change the font size of the Duration style to 11 point.
e. Remove italic formatting from the Duration style.
6. Insert a line break before the word "Train" in the sentence "Train, mentor, and motivate team...levels of productivity." in the "Experience" section to separate the two experience descriptions.
7. Apply the Duration style to the paragraph "2020 to 2023" in the "Assistant Manager, AltaVista Hotel, Maui, HI" section to use consistent formatting for date paragraphs
8. Modify the Heading 3 style to use the text color Green, Accent 6, Darker 50% (10th column, 6th row in the Theme Colors palette) to add contrast throughout the resume.
9. Insert a bulleted list containing Josef Stein's abilities as follows:
a. Save the bulleted list in the file Support_WD365_5B_Abilities.docx as a Quick Part using Abilities as the name of the Quick Part.
b. Select the paragraph "[insert abilities here]", then insert the Abilities Quick Part to add the bulleted list to the resume. (Hint: Select the text and the paragraph mark.)
10. Insert a hyperlink as follows to supply missing information:
a. Replace the text "Email" with the text [email protected].
b. Format the text "[email protected]" as a hyperlink that links to the [email protected] email address.
c. Add the ScreenTip Josef Stein email address to the hyperlink.
11. Move the text in the last row in the table ("Collaborated with the management team...in revenue.") so that it appears in the blank paragraph after the text "Proven ability to …online reviews." to provide another example of communication skills. Delete the blank row.
12. Insert a table to add rows containing keywords for automated resume scanners:
a. Copy the table in the file Support_WD365_5B_Keywords.docx.
b. Paste the table in the blank paragraph at the end of the document using the Original Table Formatting option.
13. Type Hospitality management, marketing in the Keywords content control to list the keywords for the resume.
14. Apply a Center vertical alignment to balance the resume content on the page.
