There has always been a strong bond between the people of the North East and the Rifles, its forming Regiments such as the Light Infantry and its antecedent Regiments mainly the Durham Light Infantry in the North East. We see ourselves as a family which bonds together not only regular and reserve riflemen but our cadets and our veterans many of who come from communities in the North East.

Our intention, in conjunction with the various civic authorities, was to exercise our Freedom of towns and cities in the region during June this year The Band and Bugles of the Rifles were due to lead these parades, culminating with a Proms in the Park concert joined by reserve and cadet musicians of the Rifles and local school musicians. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions, these events have had to be postponed.

As Riflemen, we are renowned for our ingenuity and not wishing to let the planned events go without a fight we called on The Band and Bugles of Durham Army Cadet Force assisted by the Minden Band and Bugles ACF of Yorkshire North and West to produce a Virtual Sounding of Retreat to mark what would have been Rifles North East 202O. We are all justly proud of what are young riflemen musicians have produced.
