Hidden Gem in Borneo’s Mountains - Kundasang

Описание: After a few sweaty days in the city, I made my way up into the cool mountain town of Kundasang — and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. It was a last-minute recommendation from my hostel in Kota Kinabalu, and I’m so glad I took it. The views here are incredible, the air is fresh, and it feels like a completely different world compared to the rest of Borneo I’ve seen so far.

In this video, I take you with me as I explore the town on foot. I pass dairy farms, winding mountain roads, and eventually stumble into a vegetable market that’s not just full of colour — but also has a bloke in a gorilla suit and Spider-Man posing for family photos. It’s bizarre, brilliant, and totally unexpected.

But the real moment of reflection came when I visited the Kundasang War Memorial — a peaceful garden dedicated to the British and Australian soldiers who died during the brutal death marches of World War II. As a former British Army soldier myself, it hit harder than I expected. I didn’t rush it — just walked around, soaked in the history, and thought about what those lads went through.

This video’s got it all: laughs, landscapes, and a few lump-in-the-throat moments. Kundasang might not be on most backpacker itineraries, but it absolutely deserves to be.
