Afghanistan’s New Taliban Law Allows Husbands To Beat Wives As Long As There Are 'No Broken Bones'

Описание: The Taliban has formally introduced a new 90-page penal code in Afghanistan that effectively legalises domestic violence and creates a hierarchy of punishment based on social status.

Signed by supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, the new criminal code — titled De Mahakumu Jazaai Osulnama — has been distributed across Afghan courts.

Under the new framework, husbands are explicitly allowed to administer “discretionary punishment” to their wives under the concept of ta’zir. Religious scholars are granted leniency, often receiving only “advice” instead of criminal sentences, while lower-class offenders face imprisonment combined with corporal punishment.

Women seeking justice must present visible injuries in court, remain fully covered, and be accompanied by a male guardian — even if the husband is the accused. The maximum sentence for a husband convicted of serious assault is reportedly just 15 days.
