A great Puerto Rican Artist born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico: educated in Puerto Rico and the United States. One of the most loving and compassionate human beings I have ever met; a friend like no other, U.S. Navy veteran, brother, uncle, mentor and teacher to hundreds of adults and young Latinos living in East Harlem and the Bronx; poet, painter, essayist, playwright, and song writer. We wrote a song together, which was recorded by the well-known Latin Musician and band leader, Ricardo Marrero and the Group, “Cancion de Wilfredo.”

Eli was also the recipient of many awards and prizes for his work in all the areas his gifted mind and talents touched and embraced - far too many to list here. And he published a book of Poems in Spain, "La Inquietud En La Gota Del Tiempo."

Eli was associated with all the most important Puerto Rican Cultural institutions and Associations, and newspapers, in the Island and U.S, and held important positions connected to them. He was President and co-founder of La Casa de Herencia Cultural Puertorriqueña.

He will be greatly missed for his good humor, humility, affection, talents, good citizenship, and the many good works that he so generously poured on his community of friends, neighbors, students, colleagues, veterans, and fellow citizens.

Ironically, when I last spoke to our beloved friend, almost two months ago; he told me that he was making a special study about the lives of the Angels that appear in the Holy Bible.

Undoubtedly, Eli was preparing himself for an even greater mission, and much higher pursuits than I could have ever imagined.
