Flight Simulator X's original slogan, 'As real as it gets', apparently doesn't apply to Africa. Here are seven more glitches and challenging approaches for you to explore in Southern Africa. Most videos filmed using ORBX Global and Vector, REX4 and Accusim. If you enjoyed, dont forget to like and/or subscribe! As always, suggestions and comments are most welcome.
Scenery:
1. Matekane is the schrödingers cat of scary airports, until you ask a person if they know it, you cant possibly guess what they will answer. Perched on a plateau 600m above the valley floor and with a runway which might be 400m long, it sure makes for a fun approach. Also, mind the children. Scenery is payware from aerosoft (although a nice freeware version can be found at https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php.... Aircraft is the payware Quest Kodiak by Lionheart Creations.
2. St Helena is a newer airport currently in limbo. It is officially open, but cant actually handle any aircraft profitably as there is practically always heavy wind shear on approach to runway 20. It doesnt help that the nearest airport is 1300km away, and it isnt even a public airport. The airport is NOT included by default, but a very good freeware scenery can be found at https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php...
Aircraft is the payware qualitywings 757-200
3. Kasane is known to many simmers as one of the biggest glitches in Africa. At well over 300m below the savanna, it makes for interesting descents, especially in larger aircraft. Suggested by samuele geographie. Filmed in FSX:SE without any scenery addons/enhancements and without FSRecorder (so sorry for poorer quality footage). Aircraft is the freeare project airbus A318.
4. Robben Island is best known for its prison, and Nelson Mandela's stay there. But it one also had an airfield, now closed except for a small helipad. It isnt too hard to land at in good weather, but Cape Town's table mountain has its way of cooking up storms and fog. The Airport is NOT included by default, but can be donwloaded for free from https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php... (requires additional files to work properly). Aircraft is the magnificent freeware C-47 by Mannfred, Ted 'Tufun' Wolfgang and Daniel Gauthier
5. Oauni is actually not a glitch, there really is a giant hill in front of the runway. And RJ100 actually fly there, although the approach over the hill is prohibited. But this is flight simulator, so we dont care about pesky laws. Scenery is default and the Aircraft is the Qualitywings RJ100.
6. Kwekwe East is the epitome of FSX's realism (sarcasm intensifies). One runway floats above a seemingly pointless hole in the middle of Zimbabwe, while the second runway's approach is made mroe difficault by the terrain glitch. Flying under the runway appears to be impossible, unless the game glitches hard enough. Scenery is default and the aircraft is the freeware Cessna 150-K by François-Denis Guidée and Yves Franckart and 'Didier & Bernard' from French VFR (the website where the aircraft was found). Filmed in FSX:SE (again, apologies for bad camera angles).
7. Tromelin Island was brought to my attention lately as a new bit of scenery. It is an uninhabited Island in the Indian Ocean, officially a part of France, although Mauritius also lays claim to it. It is very remote, and the islands main attraction, a weather station, is place right next to the runway threshold, which makes for interesting landings. Scenery is freeware by FSDG(http://fsdg-online.com/home/51-tromel...) and the aircraft is the freeware Spartan Executive by Milton Shupe, Scott Thomas, Urs Burkhardt and Duane L. Tarbox
