Recent Coyote sightings in Stamford have residents and pet owners on edge. A few altercations with dogs have Stamford Animal Control Officers reminding residents to keep an eye on their pets.
Stamford Animal Control Officers say it's common to spot Coyotes during this time of year, but there's no need to panic. Stamford Animal Control Director Tilford Cobb says it isn't typical of coyotes to approach humans. They come closer to homes in the winter looking for easy meals. That's why, Cobb says, it's important to monitor your pets while outside, keep them on a leash, and keep cats indoors.
Cobb says people should avoid leaving seed in feeders or pet food in their yards. And if you do come into contact with a Coyote, be the aggressor and scare it off by making yourself appear larger, making loud noises, throwing things, etc.
Another important tip, Cobb says, is to make sure your dogs are vaccinated. Otherwise, an encounter with a coyote could have your furry friends quarantined for up to six months.
If residents spot a coyote acting abnormal or unusually aggressive, they can call Stamford Animal
