How CCAPS Chooses Our Courses]

Hi! My name is Shanta Bhoelai. I am the professional development enrollment advisor for the College of Continuing and Professional Studies. My job at CCAPS is to help learners connect with professional development courses, certificates, and boot camps based on their career goals.

I'm here with Ross Jahnke, the director of CCAPS professional development programs. Ross how does the college choose the courses and programs it offers?

First of all, let me say that CCAPS's mission is to teach practical and applicable skills and knowledge, not just theory and concepts, but also how to apply learning in a professional setting.

Currently, we offer more than 80 unique courses with over 200  class sessions each year.

As far as how we decide what programs to teach, we look at what employers need through job posting data and we also have conversations with employers and ask, "What skills do you need developed for the people on your teams?"

For example, effective leadership encompasses skills that are valuable across a variety of industries and professions.

Our team kept hearing about a batch of leadership skills that new professionals in various fields needed to develop.
So we talked with managers to understand more about the skills needed in this area.

And talking with those who manage professionals is a key information source for us—it helped us target our programming to the real needs in the workforce

and led us to develop the Leadership Essentials Certificate.
