Pilot declares MAYDAY for low fuel after 3 unsuccessful approaches at JFK Airport

On 29 December 2025, an American Airlines Airbus A321 (registration N104NN) operating flight AA3085 from Santa Ana (SNA) to New York JFK experienced multiple go-arounds during its arrival at JFK at around 10:43 PM local time. The first go-around was due to an unstable approach, followed by a second during an ILS approach to Runway 31R after the crew reported an issue with the aircraft’s box setting. A third approach was also unsuccessful, leading the pilots to request delay vectors. On the fourth approach, the flight crew declared a MAYDAY due to low fuel. The aircraft subsequently landed safely on Runway 31R and taxied to the gate without further incident.
