"I was born in a desert, raised in a lion's den..."
New Minglewood Blues is an interesting piece of Grateful Dead history. The song was originally a 1920s jug band tune by Noah Lewis (without the "New" in the title). The band recorded it for their 1967 debut album (as "New, New Minglewood Blues") and kept it in the rotation for nearly 30 years with different iterations ("All New..." and then simply "New...") By the early 1980s, Bob Weir had transformed it into the gritty blues tune we love today.
In this performance from our acoustic set at The Kent Stage, Dupree's Dead Band brings that high-octane early 80s "Minglewood" energy to the unplugged stage. Even performed with acoustic guitars, its hard not to feel that gritty, foot-stomping drive.
