Описание: About the webinar: This webinar will highlight the connections between opioids and other types of substance misuse, incarceration, and chronic health conditions/early death of those who spend time in jail/prison. The discussion will include information about the linkages between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), opioid misuse, chronic health conditions, health disparities, criminal activity, and imprisonment across the country. The webinar will also discuss the importance of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) of inmates during incarceration and upon release into the community. MAT helps reduce severe withdrawal due to lacking opioid access during incarceration, as well as to reduce the likelihood of overdose fatalities. The webinar will also provide an update on how COVID-19 is affecting opioid misuse and incarceration. Learning Objectives: • Review research connecting ACEs, opioid addiction, and incarceration • Relate opioid misuse to poor health outcomes/premature death of inmates • Review major health disparities of the justice-involved/incarcerated populations • Discuss challenges associated with helping the incarcerated who struggle with opioid addiction • Frame key aspects of the US criminal justice system and reform efforts • Identify adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on opioid misuse and justice-involved/incarcerated populations Speaker: David Young, (Community Health Specialist & Professor) David has served as faculty at Montana State University (MSU) and with MSU Extension Service.
